This week, we look at enhanced CAPTCHA protection, YouTube Shorts, and exciting new features from our trusted partners, Recharge and Rebuy.

CHANGES TO CAPTCHA PROTECTION [SEP 28]

Starting October 28th, Shopify will implement key changes to CAPTCHA protection across customer and storefront forms.

✅Classic Customer Accounts: hCaptcha tokens are now required for Login, Create Account, and Reset Password flows. Submissions without valid hCaptcha tokens will return a 400 error response.

✅Storefront Forms: Full deprecation of reCAPTCHA v3—any applications or themes using it must migrate to hCaptcha.

✅Compliance: Most form submissions already meet these requirements, but custom themes directly invoking reCAPTCHA v3 need to update.

Expert Insight: 

While this shift provides better bot protection and is free compared to Google Captcha v2, brands should consider GDPR implications

YOUTUBE SHORTS NOW SUPPORTED [SEP 28]

You can now upload YouTube Shorts as an external file type in Shopify’s admin. This allows you to easily use Shorts across your product pages and resources.

Add YouTube Shorts URLs directly through the file picker.

Use Shorts for mobile-optimised testimonials.

✅Display product clips with ease

Expert insight: 

This feature offers an effective way to use social proof, which can strengthen trust and loyalty. Short, impactful videos help brands build community by showcasing real customer experiences.
