Based on Shopify’s Fall ’26 Edition, read on 30 October 2026. Many of these features are marked ‘rolling out soon’, ‘early access’ or limited to certain plans and countries, so check availability on your store before you plan around them. The source is listed at the end.
Shopify’s Fall ’26 Edition lists 222 updates across 11 areas, from AI shopping agents to receipt printers. Most are aimed at small merchants or app developers. We read every one against the brands we work with: Shopify Plus businesses in the UK and US that sell direct to consumers, often with subscriptions, Klaviyo, international markets, shops or a trade channel. This guide sets out the updates that matter for those brands, in the order we would act on them.
The short answer
- Get your catalog ready for AI shopping agents. Shoppers can now buy from Shopify stores inside Google’s AI Mode, Gemini and other assistants, and your product data decides whether you appear.
- Check your analytics before you read your Black Friday numbers. Shopify now filters bots out of sessions, so conversion rate can rise with no change in sales.
- Use the new rollouts to schedule promotions. Theme, checkout, prices and discounts can now go live, and roll back, as one change.
- Review your checkout apps. Custom checkout fields and a new payment layout replace work that often needed an app.
- Look again at fraud and chargebacks. The new Shopify Protect app blocks risky orders before payment and writes dispute responses for you.

1. Get ready for AI shopping agents
This is the largest theme in the Edition and the one most likely to change how shoppers find you. Shoppers can now buy from Shopify stores in Google Search, including AI Mode, and the Gemini app, with checkout handled by Shopify and orders landing in your admin. Shop Pay checkout also works in other assistants that Shopify names, including Claude Duet, Grok Bot and Meta’s Muse.
Agents find products through Shopify Catalog. Three updates matter here:
- You can now see whether your store is eligible for Shopify Catalog, and what to change to qualify.
- Agents receive your compare-at price, so markdowns show without extra set-up.
- You can review and approve the business facts shared with agents, including policies and FAQs, and get suggestions to improve them.
Shopify has also added a Universal Commerce Protocol endpoint that answers questions about a store from the facts the business publishes, and agents can now find a brand’s shops and send shoppers to the nearest one.
What to do: treat this like search engine optimization for products. Check Catalog eligibility, fill in product attributes and category metafields, make sure titles and descriptions say plainly what each product is, and review the policies and FAQs that agents will quote. A store that is clean for Google Shopping is most of the way there.
2. Check your analytics before peak
Sessions in Shopify analytics now filter out bots, join visits into a single journey and count visits in line with cookie consent. Sessions are likely to fall for most stores. Conversion rate, which divides orders by sessions, will rise even if nothing else changes.
What to do: note the date the change reached your store, add an annotation in analytics (also new), and avoid comparing conversion rate across that date without adjusting. This matters most for Black Friday reporting, where teams will compare this year with last.
Other analytics updates are worth using:
- Marketing reports separate traffic sources and should give fewer misattributed sales.
- Apps can send events into analytics, such as loyalty points redeemed or emails sent, so you can report on them next to sales.
- You can group and filter reports by category metafields such as color or material, and by metaobjects such as loyalty status.
3. Plan promotions and tests as rollouts
Rollouts let you schedule a launch, event or experiment that includes theme changes, checkout settings, catalogs and discounts as one change. Price changes and product publishing can be scheduled as catalogs by market and roll back automatically when the promotion ends. The same tool runs A/B tests on store elements across headless builds, Shopify POS, Google Shopping and the Shop app.
For most of our clients this removes a late-night job. A Black Friday sale that used to mean a theme publish, a discount switch and a price import at midnight, then the reverse a week later, can now be set up and checked in advance.
What to do: set up the next promotion as a rollout in a quiet week first. For conversion testing, simple tests of copy, layout and offers can move to Shopify’s own tool. Keep a specialist testing tool for complex tests until Shopify’s reporting has proved itself. See our conversion rate optimization work.
4. Review your checkout apps
The checkout and accounts editor gains custom fields: text inputs, date pickers, check boxes and choice lists for delivery instructions, gift messages and similar details. Many stores use an app for exactly this. Shopify is also rolling out a tiled layout for payment methods, a stacked form that cuts scrolling and shows errors more clearly, and, coming soon, Apple Pay in Chrome, Edge and Firefox by scanning a QR code with an iPhone.
What to do: list every checkout app and what it does. Where an app only collects a field, plan to replace it with the native version after peak. When the new payment layout reaches your store, check how it looks with your payment methods and branding, and keep other checkout changes out of the peak weeks so any change in conversion has one cause.
5. Look again at fraud and chargebacks
The new Shopify Protect app brings together fraud and dispute tools. Shopify now blocks high-risk orders before payment is authorized, shows which factors raised an order’s risk, and writes a response to every chargeback using the customer’s bank, the reason code and your store’s context. It attaches carrier proof of delivery, including FedEx delivery photos, when a customer says an order never arrived. Shopify says merchants win 60% more ‘product not received’ disputes with Shopify Protect. You can also write your own risk rules, test them against past orders and get alerts when they drift.
Shopify says chargeback protection will soon extend to orders not paid with Shop Pay. Several of these features are listed as rolling out soon.
What to do: if you sell high-value products or spend staff time on disputes, compare Shopify Protect with your current fraud app on cost, coverage and how it handles your typical disputes.
6. Selling abroad
Shopify Managed Markets can now show international prices that include guaranteed duties and taxes, with flat-rate shipping at checkout. Shopify says brands saw 50% higher international conversion with Managed Markets. Shipping options, return windows and the right to request returns or cancellations can now be set for each market, and fees can be added to products and collections per market (early access).
Other changes for international brands:
- Stores can launch in Arabic, Hebrew and Urdu, which read right to left.
- Translate & Adapt keeps translations current when the store is edited.
- Shopify Tax now calculates US tax from the location an order ships from, so rates stay right for brands that ship US orders from more than one location.
- Shopify Payments pays out in more currencies for businesses in Australia, France, Singapore and Hong Kong on Advanced and Plus.
- Businesses can use Shopify Payments across several legal entities, with other payment providers connected to each one.
What to do: if you sell to the US or EU from the UK, review whether all-in pricing would remove the duties surprise at delivery, and set returns rules per market rather than one global policy. See our international expansion work, including Ceva, where we run more than 20 sites in eight countries on one Shopify Plus codebase.
7. Retention: sign-in, WhatsApp and subscriptions
Shop sign-in can now be added to lead capture forms in Klaviyo and Shopify Forms, so a shopper who signs up is identified as a known customer earlier. Shoppers’ carts sync across devices and between the Shop app and your store. Customers can find unused discount codes from your sign-up forms and emails in their Shop account.
Shopify can now collect WhatsApp marketing consent at checkout and send automated WhatsApp messages for browse, cart and checkout abandonment through Shopify Messaging. For brands that run email and SMS in Klaviyo, decide where WhatsApp belongs before turning it on, so customers do not receive the same reminder twice.
For subscription brands, staff can add subscriptions to draft orders and send an invoice to complete payment. In the US, Shop Pay will soon accept pre-tax HSA and FSA funds, with Truemed handling eligibility. That is worth a look for health and wellness brands selling in the US.

8. Brands with shops
POS has 20 updates. The most useful:
- POS recognizes more customers in store through the network of shoppers who have paid at any store using Shopify Payments.
- Staff can open a known customer’s abandoned online cart in POS and finish the sale in store.
- Carts are saved across POS devices, so any associate can pick up a sale, including across shift changes.
- Every sale can be tracked to the associate who made it.
- Stock counts can be scheduled in the admin by item, location and timeframe, then carried out in POS.
- Printed receipts can follow a branded template that adds tax summaries for the UK, EU and Canada.
- Local delivery can be chosen at checkout and fulfilled from POS.
Plus brands also get organization-level staff roles across POS and admin. See our Shopify POS work, including Allbirds.
9. Trade channels, automation and integrations
- B2B customers can see search results limited to their catalog at their negotiated price, using the Algolia app.
- B2B catalog exports include vendor details, which speeds up price updates.
- Shopify Flow can now start a workflow when a product’s price, tag, metafield or other field changes, uses admin permissions to control who edits automations, and can restore earlier versions of a workflow.
- Purchase orders can be queried through the Admin API, which helps connect procurement to an ERP.
- A store-wide change log, coming soon, will show which staff member, app or service made each change.
See our Shopify B2B and ERP integration work.
10. Housekeeping for apps and integrations
Some developer changes need action from brands with custom apps or older third-party apps:
- Apps can no longer create or update script tags, and must move to theme app extensions or web pixels. Check that older tracking and marketing apps on your store still work.
- Apps listed on the Shopify App Store must move to expiring access tokens before January 2027.
- Apps can now restrict which IP addresses may call the API with their credentials. Custom integrations, such as ERP connections, should use this.
- App settings will soon show the status of each app extension, so faults are easier to spot.
What to do: ask your agency or developer for an audit of custom apps, integrations and script-based apps before the January deadline.
Worth watching
Several headline features matter less to established Plus brands today:
- Canvas and Sidekick. Shopify’s new store editor works with Sidekick, its AI assistant, to design and edit a store. It is built on a new theme architecture with blocks, typed contracts and Tailwind styling. Existing themes are not built on it, so the benefit comes with a rebuild. We will assess it on new builds.
- Hydrogen. Shopify’s headless framework gains customer accounts, predictive search and one-click deploys to Vercel. This helps brands that stay headless. Many brands are better served by native Shopify, as Allbirds found in Canada and South Korea.
- The Shop app. A new shop.com, universal checkout across brands, and Shop Campaigns in more than 35 new markets including the UK, paid only when an ad drives a sale. Worth a small test for UK brands.
- Faster pages. Shopify now delivers only the CSS each page uses. This happens automatically.
How we are handling this for clients
For brands on a Superco retainer, these updates go into the next quarterly roadmap and are ranked against other work by expected impact and effort. Before Black Friday we recommend only two changes: annotating analytics for the bot filtering change, and checking Shopify Catalog eligibility. Checkout, fraud and app changes can follow in December and January, after peak.
