The challenge

Ennis & Brown began in 1989 in a converted pig barn in Tring, selling country antiques. Three generations on, the family makes bespoke dining tables, sideboards and seating to the size, timber and finish each customer chooses, guaranteed for life, and still welcomes customers to its farmyard showroom.

The old Squarespace site showed the furniture but did not sell it. Most orders came through the showroom. The family wanted a store that could sell made-to-order furniture online, with every option a customer can choose in the showroom.

Solution

Strategy first, then a store that sells made to order.

We started with a customer experience strategy: who buys a bespoke table online, what they need to know before spending on a piece of furniture for life, and what the showroom does that the website should do too.

We then designed and built a new Shopify store and migrated the business from Squarespace. Customers choose the size, timber and finish of each piece, order samples before they commit, and see the furniture in other families’ homes. Ready-to-ship ranges, trade accounts and showroom visits sit alongside the bespoke collection.

What we built

The build

  • A customer experience strategy for selling bespoke furniture online
  • A new Shopify design and build
  • A migration from Squarespace
  • Product options for size, timber and finish on every bespoke piece
  • Sample ordering, customer photos and reviews
  • Trade accounts and showroom information

Technology: Shopify, Klaviyo and Trustpilot

Impact

The result

Ennis & Brown went from selling almost nothing online to building a substantial online business within 12 months of launch.

‘The migration was a total success. It’s totally transformed my business.’
