Magento to Shopify Plus migration
Magento
Most Magento brands move to Shopify to spend less time and money maintaining the platform.
The risks are search rankings, customer and order data, and the extensions and integrations Magento relied on. A like-for-like move is the fastest: LSA International went from Magento to Shopify in six weeks, and New & Lingwood moved to Shopify Plus in about two months.
Plan the move before your hosting or licence renews, and away from your peak trading period. We will tell you if the dates do not work.

Support deadlines
Adobe’s support dates are why many brands are moving now.
Adobe gives each Adobe Commerce version three years of standard support. Version 2.4.6 left standard support on 11 August 2026 and gets extended support only until 31 August 2027. Version 2.4.7 leaves standard support on 31 May 2027. Versions 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 are already unsupported.
From 1 June 2027, Adobe will stop maintaining Cloud environments that run unsupported versions and will suspend their traffic. PHP 8.2 reaches end of life on 31 December 2026. Each upgrade means testing every extension and integration again, which is often the point at which brands price a move to Shopify instead.

Magento and Shopify compared
Hosting and security
On Magento, your responsibility or your hosting partner’s. On Shopify, included and managed by Shopify.
Upgrades
On Magento, version upgrades and patches to plan and test. On Shopify, the platform updates continuously.
Extensions
On Magento, installed into the codebase. On Shopify, apps and Shopify Functions sit outside the core code.
B2B
On Magento, often added with extensions. On Shopify Plus, company accounts, price lists and payment terms are built in.
Day-to-day editing
On Magento, often a developer’s job. On Shopify, your team uses the theme editor, sections and metaobjects.
What moves, and what changes
Moves
Products, customers, order history, content and redirects.
Rebuilt
Extensions, as Shopify apps, Shopify features or custom code, and the theme.
Does not move
Customer passwords. Customers log in with a one-time code or set a new password.
How it works
A Magento migration, step by step.
1. Discovery. We audit the Magento store: catalogue, customer and order data, extensions, integrations, URLs and rankings, and agree what moves, what is rebuilt and what goes.
2. Design and build. A Shopify theme is built alongside the live Magento store, either like for like or redesigned, with apps, Shopify Functions or custom code in place of each extension.
3. Data and integrations. Products, customers, order history, gift cards and content move with Matrixify or custom scripts. ERP, warehouse and marketing systems are reconnected.
4. Redirects and SEO. Every Magento URL is mapped to its Shopify address, titles and structured data carry over, and redirects are tested before launch.
5. Testing and launch. We test orders, payments, integrations and redirects, run a final data sync, and switch over with the old store still available as a fallback.
6. After launch. We track rankings and errors in Search Console, fix what comes up and train your team on the new store.
A like-for-like move is the fastest. LSA International moved in six weeks, including two weeks of testing, and New & Lingwood in about two months. A redesign with several integrations takes longer.
Search rankings
How we protect rankings on a Magento move.
We map every Magento URL to its new address with a 301 redirect, including category and filtered URLs, which Magento and Shopify structure differently.
We carry over titles, meta descriptions, headings and structured data, test redirects before and on launch day, and track rankings afterwards.
Extensions
What happens to common Magento extensions.
Layered navigation and search: Shopify Search & Discovery, or a search app for large catalogues.
Several store views: Shopify Markets for currencies, languages and prices in one store, or expansion stores on Shopify Plus.
B2B modules: Shopify’s built-in B2B, with fuller catalogues and payment terms on Shopify Plus.
Custom pricing and promotion rules: Shopify Functions, from an app or a custom app on Shopify Plus.
Page builders: Shopify’s theme editor, sections and metaobjects, which your team edits without a developer.
Loyalty, reviews, subscriptions and email: Shopify apps such as LoyaltyLion, Recharge and Klaviyo.
ERP and warehouse connectors: a native connector, an integration partner or a custom integration.

Cost
What decides the cost of a Magento migration.
The size and complexity of the catalogue, how many Magento extensions need a Shopify replacement or custom build, the number of integrations such as ERP, warehouse and payment systems, whether you redesign or move like for like, and how many stores, countries and languages are involved.
Against that, Shopify removes hosting, security patching and version upgrades, and most brands spend less maintaining the platform once they move. Our total cost of ownership calculator compares the two over three years.

No. We build the Shopify store alongside Magento and switch over on launch day, with all redirects live.
It depends on the catalogue, the number of extensions and integrations, and whether you redesign. A like-for-like move costs least. We price each migration after a short discovery, and our total cost of ownership calculator compares running costs on Magento and Shopify.
Most Magento brands of the size that use Adobe Commerce move to Shopify Plus, for checkout changes, custom Shopify Functions, fuller B2B and expansion stores. Smaller stores often run well on Advanced. See Shopify vs Shopify Plus.
It is the safest time. Version 2.4.6 is on extended support only until 31 August 2027, and Adobe will suspend Cloud environments on unsupported versions from 1 June 2027. Starting four to six months ahead leaves room for testing and avoids peak trading.
