Total cost of ownership
The platform fee is only part of what a Shopify Plus store costs to run.
Total cost of ownership adds up everything you pay to run the store over a period, usually three years: the Shopify plan, payment processing, apps, development, and the people and agencies who look after it.
Comparing platforms on licence fees alone misleads. Hosting, security, upgrades and checkout are included in Shopify Plus, while on Magento, Adobe Commerce or a custom build they are separate costs and separate projects. The calculator above estimates the Shopify Plus side, so you can set it against what you spend today.

What goes into the total
Shopify Plus plan
The monthly platform fee. Shopify publishes it from £1,800 a month on a three-year term and £1,950 on a one-year term, with a variable fee for some higher-volume businesses.
Payment processing
Card and wallet fees per order. Plus has the lowest Shopify Payments rates, and the lowest fee if you use a third-party payment provider.
Apps
Monthly subscriptions for reviews, subscriptions, search, loyalty, returns and the rest of the stack.
Build
The design and development of the store, or the migration from your current platform.
Ongoing development
Fixes, new features, testing and SEO after launch, usually on a retainer.
Your team
The time your own staff spend running the store, which falls when the platform handles hosting, security and upgrades.
What is included in Shopify Plus
Hosting and security
Managed by Shopify, with no servers to run or patch.
Upgrades
The platform updates continuously, with no version upgrades to plan and test.
Checkout
A hosted checkout you can customise on Plus, without maintaining your own.
B2B and expansion stores
B2B features and up to nine expansion stores are part of the Plus plan.
FAQs
The full cost of running the store over a set period, usually three years: the Shopify Plus plan, payment fees, apps, the build and ongoing development, and your team’s time.
Shopify publishes Plus pricing from £1,800 a month on a three-year term and £1,950 a month on a one-year term (October 2026), with a variable platform fee for some more complex, higher-volume businesses. Check Shopify’s pricing page for the current figures.
Often, once hosting, security, upgrades and the developer time they need are counted. The answer depends on your order volume, apps and team, which is why we compare total cost rather than licence fees.
